PALM Scheme Community Connections Program

Connecting you to the right support, at the right time

Community Connections is a component of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme and is delivered nationally by The Salvation Army in partnership with local organisations.

The program supports PALM scheme workers to build strong connections within their local communities, access support services, and maintain their wellbeing while living and working in Australia.

At Community Connections, we work alongside workers, employers, community groups and government to promote social inclusion, strengthen community ties, and ensure workers are supported practically and socially.

How Community Connections works

Community Connections is guided by a person-centred, culturally responsive and strengths-based approach.

Our team works alongside PALM scheme workers and communities to:

  • build trust and meaningful local connections
  • provide information and guidance about the different kinds of support available
  • support individuals to take part in community life and activities
  • strengthen partnerships with local services and stakeholders
  • respond to emerging needs within regions and communities

We aim to ensure workers feel welcomed, informed and connected in the communities where they live and work.

Support provided through Community Connections may include:

  • local orientation and community connection support
  • information sessions on living and working in Australia
  • social, cultural and wellbeing activities
  • connection to local services such as health, financial or community supports
  • support during times of vulnerability or crisis
  • access to the Emergency Support Fund (where eligibility criteria is met)
