The Salvation Army’s response to homelessness in Australia (50mins) Secondary School
Hear about the prevalence and experience of homelessness in Australia. This workshop is designed to safely prompt consideration to the drivers of homelessness and the way Australians are experiencing homeless. Using story, the workshop encourages empathy and empowers young students to act for social change. Together, we explore how the Salvation Army is responding including discussion around the supports we provide and our work in prevention. Students should leave the program with a deeper understanding of why homelessness occurs and how they can best respond in future.

Support, Sustainability and Salvos Stores (30mins) Primary and Secondary
Salvos Stores ‘Partnering for Purpose’ Program
This educational workshop compliments Salvos Stores ‘Community Partnership Program’ (CPP). The Community Partnership Program is a meaningful opportunity for schools to give back to their community AND fundraise for their own school project. We invite students to fill eco-friendly bags with items of clothing to be donated to Salvos Stores. For each bag received, Salvos Stores will donate $5 to fundraise for a program at your school, like breakfast club or your school veggie patch. Salvos Stores is investing in this opportunity as it aligns with our commitment to sustainability and increases the volume of donations and in turn, the amount of funds that can be raised to support The Salvation Army’s social and community services.
‘Support, Sustainability and Salvos Stores’ is the educational component of CPP. Through this online workshop, your students will learn about the fashion industry’s impact on the earth and how Salvos Stores is working to combat this by giving clothing a second life. Further, students will understand how shopping at a Salvos Store helps fund vital social and community services through the Salvation Army.
CPP can be applied to any of The Salvation Army ‘virtual classroom’ programs.
