Rural and remote chaplains

Dianne and Russell Lawson
Dianne and Russell (Rusty) Lawson

Rural and remote communities in Australia are continuing to experience the toughest of conditions in our nation, including drought, bushfires, floods, mice plagues, economic downturn, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The resilience of rural people is remarkable; however, we understand that daily pressures and additional challenges continue to impact their lives.

Our chaplains provide care and support to people in rural and remote Australia, who, at times, feel socially and geographically isolated. Rural and remote chaplains seek to bring hope and support to people challenged with economic, environmental, emotional and/or social pressures.

Chaplains are often the only community workers who travel to these remote areas either by means of a 4WD vehicle or plane. They come alongside others offering support and can make referrals to other agencies as needed.
