Red Shield Defence Services
The Salvation Army Red Shield Defence Services (RSDS) in Australia provides the Australian Defence Forces with practical, emotional and spiritual support in difficult times, times of grief and in the everyday.
We support members and their families according to their needs. Whether it be a chat over a cuppa, a referral or a prayer, we want to be there.
Since 1899 right through to East Timor and today, Salvation Army Officers go to war with Australian troops. Our history has been to provide support for whoever needs it. From the ‘Sallymen’ in the Second Boer War to Chaplain-Major William ‘Fighting Mac’ McKenzie at Gallipoli, spiritual and emotional support, and acts of kindness and bravery, have characterised the RSDS.
Today the RSDS continues to be a presence in Australian military life, proudly serving those who serve. We are available to support units and members, at all levels, on base, in the field, overseas, in peacetime and during hostilities. In peacetime Salvation Army Red Shield Defence Services representatives can be found at the Royal Military College Duntroon, Holsworthy, Enoggera Barracks, Lavarack Barracks Townsville and Robertson Barracks Darwin.
Where there’s a need, we are here to support our troops as they serve our country and risk their lives in the line of duty.
