National Chaplaincy
Chaplains are often described as being on the ‘frontline’ of The Salvation Army’s work by providing practical, emotional and spiritual support to people facing a crisis, coping with trauma or with a need for a listening ear. Our chaplains are dedicated to bringing hope to people in these challenging situations.
They are skilled listeners who respect those they speak to and display the highest level of professional confidentiality. This includes one on one conversations, spiritual guidance, prayer, worship, education, advocacy, Christian ceremonies, and more. Chaplains are able to introduce you to other Salvation Army expressions such as churches or social supports, or external services and other faith groups as appropriate.
Chaplains draw on their Christian faith, training and experience, and use a variety of appropriate resources designed to enhance a person’s holistic wellbeing. They believe in the possibility of a better future for everyone, where lives are transformed through the love of Jesus.
Our chaplaincy ministry areas include:
- Social mission
- Rural and remote chaplains
- Statutory bodies
- Prisons
- Red Shield Defence Services (RSDS) and defence services
- The Salvation Army Aged Care
- Employment Plus
- Salvos Stores
