The Salvation Army’s Aged Care Plus has been awarded two Better Practice Awards from the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency.

“It’s great to be recognised by the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency for our commitment to providing the best care to residents and our achievements in creating a happy and healthy workplace for our employees,” said Peter Bewert, Aged Care Plus Executive Manager Care Services.

The first Better Practice Award acknowledged the unique relationship-based, person-centred model of care provided at Montrose Aged Care Plus in Balmain, Sydney, a special care home for men with mental health issues.

The model is a blend of a traditional medical approach and the importance of the story and spirituality of a resident’s life experience. This meets the unique needs of the male residents, who come from socially vulnerable, disadvantaged and sometimes homeless backgrounds.

Aged Care Plus’ employee wellness program Mind Yourself, Mind Others also received a Better Practice Award. The program provides Aged Care Plus’ 1400 employees with an exercise program, plus tools and resources. Centres have seen the benefits of the program, with improved overall employee wellbeing and improved care outcomes for residents.

Aged Care Plus received their first Better Practice Award in 2014.
