100 Thousand Meals Served at Christmas
25 January 2018
For many of us, Christmas is the most joyful time of year. We look forward to catching up with family and friends, enjoying a special meal together and sharing gifts. But sadly for those who have no family, no support and nowhere to go, Christmas can be one of the most depressing and difficult times of year.
However, with your kindness and support, The Salvation Army was able to bring hope and joy to many people who were struggling this Christmas. We were able to keep our centre doors open and serve more than 100,000 meals across Australia in December.
But our centres supply much more than a Christmas meal; they provide friendship, support and make you feel like part of the family. Salvos centres welcome everyone, from those experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough, to those who have accommodation but have no friends or family, and elderly people who often can be forgotten or left out.
We have many familiar faces who come to us regularly in search of nourishment and company, but Christmas is a time when we meet many new people who seek our assistance for the first time.
Serving a meal and sitting down with people provides an important opportunity to connect with those in need. Quite often it is the first step to them finding the confidence to reach out and ask for help, and enabling us to support them toward a more positive future.
Your gift helped provide more than 100,000 meals and Christmas cheer to those in need across Australia.
