The Salvation Army continues co-operative Bushfire Relief in Tasmania

Over the past two weeks The Salvation Army in Southern Tasmania has distributed $120,000 in direct assistance to 225 families affected by the bushfires.

Over 80 workers and volunteers have been involved in the Salvos emergency relief effort during the initial response stage. Over 19,000 meals have been provided to emergency service workers and victims.

Captain Craig Wood said, “As we move into the recovery phase we will continue to work alongside Red Cross, Vinnies, The Lions Club, Local Councils and The Department of Human Services. The Salvation Army also supports the Bushfire Appeal Distribution Committee in its endeavours to assist communities to rebuild after the devastating bushfires of the past few weeks. The immediate goal was to provide emergency relief during the response phase, and ongoing financial and counselling needs through the recovery phase.”
