The Salvation Army announces changes to officer appointments in the Northern Territory

10 October 2013

The Salvation Army has today announced change of officer appointments for a number of vital services based in the Northern Territory. Some of the changes include the Regional Officers in charge, the Regional Youth and Children’s Secretary and the Flying Padre Service.

Majors Darryl and Kaylene Robinson from Western Australia will replace Majors Gordon and Dianne Main as Regional leaders and Lieutenant Cheryl Pryor will be responsible for youth and children’s ministries.

Captains Greg Howard will commence as the Flying Padre in January 2014, taking over from Captains David and Jennie Shrimpton who have served the isolated communities of Northern Territory and Western Australia for 11 years. Captain Shrimpton has been working with Captain Howard in recent months so that he is ready to take to the skies and build relationships with the people he will visit.

“We acknowledge the outstanding work of our Northern Territory based officers. In particular, the service of the current Flying Padre Captain David Shrimpton is greatly valued, and we understand the significant role he has played in reaching out to and connecting with people of the Northern Territory and parts of Western Australia. We are confident that his work with Captain Howard will ensure that the new Flying Padre will be ready to continue this important work of behalf of The Salvation Army,” said Major Peter Wood of The Salvation Army Northern Territory.

Each year, The Salvation Army reviews the deployment of officers and responds to the needs of communities with the appointment of officers. These changes are part of ongoing officer development and to help further the work of The Salvation Army. This annual practice has been undertaken by The Salvation Army since it began.
