The Australian government supports Red Shield Appeal

5 May 2014

The Salvation Army are grateful to receive both state and federal government support for the 2014 Red Shield Appeal. Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced a leadership gift of $250,000 to the appeal when he recently met with the two Territorial Commanders of The Salvation Army in Australia, Commissioners James Condon and Floyd Tidd in Canberra.

State Minister for Housing Wendy Lovell also announced a $100,000 donation from the Victorian Coalition Government at the Melbourne launch of the Red Shield Appeal. State Minister for Housing Wendy Lovell with Commissioner Floyd Tidd

“The Coalition Government is proud to support community organisations such as the Salvation Army, that are addressing poverty and disadvantage in Victoria,” Ms Lovell said.

“The Red Shield Appeal is an important fundraiser for the Salvos, helping to raise money each year for its network of social and community services.”

Money donated to the Red Shield Appeal enables The Salvation Army to continue to support the people who need it most – from people struggling with homelessness to women and children fleeing a violent home or families struggling to put food on the table and meet the ever increasing cost of living.
