Sleeping Out for the Salvos 2016

6 July 2016

Pre event Media Opportunity Thursday 7th July 11.00 am
Where: Hobart Town Hall, Macquarie Street, Hobart

“Sleeping Out for the Salvos is on Thursday 4th August at the Hotel Grand Chancellor forecourt”

The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Sue Hickey and other leaders from the Tasmanian government and business communities are going without their comfy warm beds on the 4th of August to help raise funds for The Salvation Army’s Street 2 Home program.

Now in its seventh year, the “Sleeping Out for the Salvos” event has raised over $400,000 since 2009 to assist The Salvation Army’s work amongst the homeless. This is The Salvation Army’s only “Sleep Out” event and all money raised is used in greater Hobart to support the Street 2 Home program. Importantly it also brings together politicians, local mayors, key government figures, and major business and community leaders to highlight the need for greater corporate responsibility for the solution to the plight of the homeless.

“This year again, as well as raising money through sponsorship, the people sleeping out will be learning about the true facts of homelessness," said Mark Foyle, Public Relations Secretary for The Salvation Army.“All money raised will be used to help The Salvation Army assist the hundreds of Tasmanians who every night don’t have a place to truly call home.”

The Salvation Army’s aim is to raise $100,000 from the “Sleeping Out for the Salvos” event this year, with all money supporting the Street 2 Home program.

The Salvation Army is thankful for the very generous support of the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart, for providing their forecourt once again for this event.

There will be a photo / vision and interview opportunity to promote the event on Thursday the 7th of July with The Lord Mayor Alderman Sue Hickey & Mark Foylefrom The Salvation Army, at the Hobart Town Hall, Macquarie Street, Hobart at11.00am. At this event the Lord Mayor will be challenging community & business leaders to join in and “sleep rough” for the night to raise money for this vital work amongst the homeless in our community.

All media representatives are invited & encouraged to attend.
