New leaders for the Salvation Army Australia

The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters in London has announced new territorial leadership of The Salvation Army in Australia’s Southern Territory. Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd have been appointed as leaders of The Salvation Army’s Southern Territory, responsible for the operation of the 600 Salvation Army community and social program centres in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

As of June 1, Commissioner Floyd Tidd assumed the position of Territorial Commander, taking over from Commissioner Raymond Finger. Commissioner Tracey Tidd has been appointed as territorial president of women’s ministries, succeeding Commissioner Aylene Finger in this role.

Commissioner Floyd Tidd previously served as chief secretary of the Canada and Bermuda Territory, and Commissioner Tracey Tidd served as territorial secretary of women’s ministries. Prior to that, they were divisional leaders for the Ontario Central-East Division.

The Commissioners are adjusting to life in Australia, but are excited about serving The Salvation Army in a new place. Commissioner Floyd Tidd said, “we recognise that we arrive with a responsibility to serve as leaders in a context completely new to us. This will be an adjustment that we appreciate will bring new challenges and opportunities to the leadership role we will assume.”

Commissioners Raymond and Aylene Finger were farewelled and thanked for their leadership over the past three years at an event on 19 May. Commissioners Finger said they “have been incredibly humbled by the opportunity that has been ours.”

Commissioners Floyd Tidd has a Masters in Theological Studies and is a graduate of the Arrow Executive Leadership program. Together they have two adult children, who still live in Canada.
