A message from the Territorial Commander 

Happy National Volunteer Week!

11 – 17 May is National Volunteer Week and our time to celebrate to the exceptional, innovative and diverse ways volunteers bring life to our values and mission and society in general.

The spirit of service and volunteerism is at the very foundation of The Salvation Army and it is only with our collaborative effort that we are able to fulfil our mission. Our volunteers contribute over one and a half million hours of service each year to make a difference in the lives of others and extend the reach of our organisation far beyond existing resources.

I have been both warmed and inspired to realise the extensive ways people contribute to enabling the work of The Salvation Army. From those who serve community meals, to being the engine of the thrift shops, to business analysts supporting the back end of operations, to those that participate in street teams at all hours of the night – there is no limit to the ways in which people volunteer. Each role is equally important and impacts our ability to reach out to more than one million people who seek our support.

The Salvation Army is one organisation expressed diversely through our churches and social programs. Together we can, and do, deepen the reality of Christ’s love and provide practical support to those in need. We count this a privilege and one that many in the Australian community want to contribute to – not only through the donation of money but also of time.

Thank you for offering your time, experience, skill and energy and for your vital role in our army. Whether you are helping out in the bustling CBD or a smaller country town, your passion and commitment for ‘others’ is deeply felt and valued.

Thank you for all you do and giving up your time to ensure we can continue the work that we are compelled to do.
