Cyclone Trevor: Emergency Services swing into action in NT

22 March 2019

The Salvation Army Emergency Services [SAES] group is deploying personnel and assets from QLD, NSW and SA to support communities in the Northern Territory as Australia experiences another extreme weather event.

TSA responses are being activated and scaled up in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Northern Territory Government.

In Darwin, The Salvation Army is working with Corrections Services to provide three meals a day to hundreds of people who have been evacuated from Groote Eylandt and Borroloola. The Salvation Army is also providing bed linen.

In Katherine, people in need of clothing number in the hundreds and are forecast to grow quickly in the next 24 hours.

And while Alice Springs is preparing for its own flood threat, The Salvation Army in ‘Alice’ is also on standby to support evacuees from communities as far afield as Tennant Creek, some 500 kilometres away.

Salvos in the Northern Territory are being supported by specialist responders from Salvation Army Disaster Services including a South Australia-based food truck being deployed to Alice Springs.
