Bushfire update

12 January 2015

12th January, 2015

The Salvation Army Emergency Services continue to support fire crews, SES and police tackling bushfires in Perth, the Adelaide Hills and parts of Victoria.

In Western Australia our teams have been active at the Bullsbrook fire and were stood down over the weekend only to be called back when the fire broke containment lines. Volunteers have had what is probably the busiest season, attending to fire emergencies for weeks now without a break in other places like Bindoon.

In South Australia more than 30 homes have been lost in the Adelaide Hills bushfires and over 132 people have received ambulance services treatment. The Salvation Army has been keeping emergency personnel well-fed with more than 5,000 meals provided.

In Northern Victoria, Salvation Army volunteers provided more than 1,000 meals in one day to fire fighters at blazes in Kyneton.

In Victoria some assistance has also been provided to residents affected by the Moyston and Hastings fires and the storm damage on the Mornington Peninsula.

To date most states except Tasmania are seeing above average fire activity.

To help those affected by the fires, Australians can donate to the Red Shield Appeal online or call 13 SALVOS (asking their donation to go towards supporting bushfire recovery).
