Red Shield Appeal Doorknock Volunteers Out In Force This Weekend

The Salvation Army is asking people to give generously to the Red Shield Doorknock volunteers who will be out in force this weekend, hitting the streets and knocking on doors across the country in an effort to raise $9.5 million. The national target for all Red Shield Appeal fundraising this year is $74 million.

Spokesperson for The Salvation Army, Major Bruce Harmer says: “We literally have an army of around 50,000 volunteer collectors who will be out and about over the weekend to raise money for the Red Shield Appeal. Everyone from families to businesses, community groups, school groups, sporting clubs, churches and uni students have signed up to collect- the support has been very encouraging!”

“Volunteer doorknock collectors will be wearing official identification tags. They will also be carrying Salvation Army donation buckets or bags as well as an official donation receipt book.

“Everyone loves a weekend sleep-in so we apologise in advance if our volunteer doorknock collectors wake anyone up, but please remember it’s for a good cause! Australians have always been generous and without their support we would not be able to continue to provide the services we do to Australia’s most vulnerable people,” said Major Harmer.

Money raised through the Red Shield Appeal goes toward funding the vital social services The Salvation Army provides, helping over one million Australians every year. These services include providing support for people and families in crisis, people who are homeless, and people struggling with addiction.
