National Volunteer Week

17 May 2019

We’re celebrating the amazing individuals who give their time to give hope where it’s needed most!

81-year-old Ros gets out of bed every morning thinking about what she can do to be helpful.Volunteer Ros

In a typical week Ros collects food from organisations such asFoodbank and Second Bite to distribute through Salvos’ community market days for local families doing it tough.

Ros helps run a pop-up op shop at the Salvos’ Linsell Lodge Aged Care Centre, chatting with residents and helping them try on new clothes.

In addition to this, Ros also helps run Ingle Farm Salvos home league each Wednesday, where 52 women gather for education, worship, fellowship and to “support each other through good times and bad.”

Ros has been a volunteer with the Salvos for a decade, and she loves giving back to thecommunity.

“I get lots and lots of good vibes, and I have good friendships,” Ros says. “I don’t give sermons, but I’m a worker for Jesus; I’d love to make you a cup of tea.”

Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd share their own personal thank you message:

Each day across Australia, thousands of individuals volunteer to give hope where it’s needed most. To all of our volunteers, we say thank you!
